SAVE THE PFD CAMPAIGN

Legislators continue to travel around Alaska in an attempt to sell their Permanent Fund P. O. M. V. (percent of market value) scheme to unsuspecting citizens.  Legislators and Governor Murkowski are not telling the public what will happen to your PFD and guaranteed inflation proofing we now enjoy.  Under their plan (also known as Murkowski's "endowment plan"), both of these would go away and  be replaced by a steady stream of revenue going to state government that could under certain market conditions also include principal of the fund!

_______________

Many of you have already received the form letter being sent out by Governor Murkowski's staff in response to your concerns about them taking away the PFD.  For those who have not seen it yet, a copy of the letter text follows:

"The Governor appreciates your comments regarding the PFD.  As you may already know, the corpus (principle) of the PFD can never be utilized without a vote of the people".   Jennifer Strickland, Deputy Director, Constituent Relations.

Editor's Note:  It seems the governor's office does not know the difference between principal and principle!

For your convenience, a sample response to the governor's form letter is shown below:

Dear Ms. Strickland,

I think you and Governor Murkowski are disseminating misleading information to the public with your form letter.

As I'm sure you know, SJR 18 the governor's P. O. M. V. scheme WILL allow spending Permanent Fund principal under certain market conditions.  It also ELIMINATES inflation proofing and the PFD program.  This proposed change of the permanent fund WILL require a vote of the people, the majority of which are becoming  "educated", and will REJECT YOUR PLAN just like we did in 1999.

Your continued attempts to take away the PFD have NOT gone unnoticed.  This plus your failure to CUT THE SIZE AND COST OF STATE GOVERNMENT down to a SUSTAINABLE SIZE will be dealt with in the next election.  Thank you very much.

NEW HOME PAGE QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK

August Public Opinion Survey

Click HERE to answer the 7 questions on our latest home page questions of the week.  Results of previous surveys can be found at the bottom of our Statistics Page.  Legislator's should take note of these VERY interesting results.  Some of the answers have huge percentages of respondents saying the same thing, which is just the OPPOSITE of what our legislature is doing!  This clearly indicates a MAJOR DISCONNECT between elected officials and the public!
