"Spotlight on Juneau" "An Informed Voter Is The Best Defense Against Bad Government"

PUBLIC OPINION SURVEY CLEARLY INDICATES LACK OF SUPPORT FOR POMV (PERCENT OF MARKET VALUE) MANAGEMENT OF PERMANENT FUND
An Alaska Voters Organization public opinion survey conducted in August 2003 clearly indicated lack of support for POMV management of Permanent Fund. Over 500 Alaskans (97% registered voters) were asked the following question:
"Democrats Croft and Lincoln introduced HJR 3 and SJR 19 which proposed an election to give Alaskans the opportunity to constitutionally protect our PFD from legislative spending. HJR 26 and SJR 18 were introduced by Republican controlled committees and represent Governor Murkowski’s “endowment plan” or POMV (percent of market value) scheme. The Republican plan offers no assurance of future dividends, no guaranteed inflation proofing and could even erode Permanent Fund principal. Please circle the legislation you prefer:"
With the following results:
HJR 3/ SJR 19: 73.4% HJR 26/ SJR 18: 6.3% Don’t Know/Not Sure: 20.3%
In a bonus question (with 705 people responding):
"Can the Governor spend your PFD better than you"?
91.1% said NO!!! 5.2% YES 3.7% not sure
Anyone unsure of methods used in conducting these surveys are encouraged to contact Representatives Chenault and Wolf, Senator Wagoner, or Lt. Governor Leman. All of whom have seen how citizens are chosen at random during public events without regard for political affiliation, or socioeconomic background factors.
Citizens taking these surveys represent the majority of Alaskan voters better than any "scientific" poll which are typically conducted within certain special interest segments of society. Click here to see all results of the August 2003 public opinion survey, and here to see other surveys (scroll to bottom of page) conducted by the Alaska Voters Organization, and their results.
Those with serious intentions of representing the public as an elected official should study and remember these HUGE numbers. They represent the feelings of the majority of Alaskans!!! _______________
