Hello Fellow Voters,

The legislature is coming, the legislature is coming!!!

The 23rd. Alaska Legislature will convene Tuesday, January 21, and some bills have already been pre-filed.  Our initial review found several bills designed to take away the permanent fund dividend and use it to finance state government.  Several others will make petitioning our state government more difficult.  Some authorize spending our money on non-essential "wants".  For a complete list of pre-filed bills go to the Legislative home page.  Future issues of the "Spotlight" will list questionable legislation, what the estimated cost is, and how you can tell the legislature what you think about it. 

Action page training classes!

There are some easy to use, yet powerful communications tools available on our Action page.  Find out how to effectively communicate with your state government by attending one of our training classes, then share the knowledge with your friends.  The next class will be in Kenai on Tuesday, January 14, at 7 pm.  Call 776-8008 or email us for additional information.  Make sure you R.S.V.P this event so there will be adequate study guides available for everyone in attendance. 

Take the AK Voters weekly survey!

We added weekly online poll questions to our website.  Go to the home page now and let us know how you feel about the questions below:

1.  Do you think Alaska is headed for a recession or at least more economic slowdown?

2.  Would you support a constitutional amendment that requires a majority vote of the people to tap permanent fund earnings?

3.  Do you feel there is adequate job training in Alaska's public schools?

4.  Would you support legislation that gives property tax credits for Alaskans that privately educate their children?

If you have suggestions for future survey questions, feel free to email them to us. 

Look for additional changes on the website as we gear up for the 23rd legislature.  Now fasten your seat belt and hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride!
