Some
legislators are running roughshod over people they were elected
to represent. Citizens contacting legislators are not taken
seriously. I recently mailed a letter to all 60 legislators and
Governor Murkowski, receiving only one acknowledgement in
return.
In 2002,
Governor Murkowski appointed Lisa to complete his un-expired
term in Congress. This was nepotism of the worst kind. Most
citizens will remember that Lisa Murkowski has never held an
elected state wide office, and that she won the republican
primary for House District 18 by less than 60 votes in 2002.
What kind of qualifications are these?
Governor
Murkowski has also named replacements for State Senators
Austerman and Taylor, and Representative Whitaker. These
replacements were made in consultation with the Republican Party
NOT the affected citizens! All congressional and legislative
replacements should be by a vote of the people affected, NOT
appointed by a partisan governor.
There is
a petition circulating which will change the way US Senators are
replaced. Citizens should get involved in this effort by
signing a petition or helping to collect signatures. This
petition will correct one of the many problems created by the
legislature in their attempt to gain more partisan political
power. This citizen’s effort should be expanded to include ALL
members of the congressional delegation AND Alaska State
Legislators, because we can’t trust them to make this needed
change!
