The Special Session
that the Governor has called is an insult to us all. He could
not trust in your collective decision as our Representatives and
Senators to determine the feasibility and productivity of this
costly measure. He said he would trust in you to decide this and he
has not. He simply did not have the patience or maturity to keep his
promise as many of us see it.
We urge you not to
cooperate with his agenda on POMV, Sin Taxes, or any other non
productive scheme he is fomenting in fits of desperation. The people
are getting tired of this even within his own Party.
I know you all are
probably getting a little tired of hearing that we must start living
within our means. The public understands that just because oil
prices are high right now that it is no excuse not to address our
deficits. However, to address those deficits in the wrong way only
gets us in deeper in the future. For instance, with the recent
windfall given to education, we see that the administrators are
already saying they need more. Very sad already.
In closing we
encourage you to have the strength to stop this insanity and set
this State back on course. Our Governor might even start
by insisting we pay back some money to the Constitutional Budget
Reserve as required by law before initiating more taxes, spending
more and raiding the Permanent Fund. What a novel idea...following
the law?
