"An Informed Voter Is The Best Defense Against Bad Government"

Letters to the Editor go Unpublished

Aurea & Jewel Walker, April 21, 2004

We have sent nice messages to the ADN and not one of them ever passes their very restrictive guidelines their editors have set for publishing. These are comments on the PFD, state taxes, user fees, the longevity (Lgvt.) bonus, and no oil taxes!

No oil taxes is the usual smoke screening, this administration has given birth to. They are rulers of their domain (ALASKA) and no oil taxes are the promotion of a gas "pipe line dream" that came here with our new Governor from Washington, DC. We now see all the other senators there fully support his every move. Most of it is in support of the election coming up!

This gas pipeline dream flows with the Senior Disabled fixed incomes. That generates the flow of the gas and the insults of our senior citizens, our vulnerable adults and every low income individual. Now the (Lgvy.) is all absorbed, by other state programs that assist the majority of those who receive the (Lgvt.) so called drug assistance which has nothing to do with drug assistance, but is just part of the big dream, smoke screen.

These programs were designed by  politicians to show the states powers to give and take as they please. These are usual double standards in this administration who actually gave birth to the standards they set to control the incomes of the most vulnerable of today's society, the Senior disabled and all those who are recipients of government assisted programs with fixed poverty level incomes.

We who watch closely at the oil stocks and have recently noted that there are several Alaskan Native corps., who demanded a 40% increase in their earnings of dividends and their stock from these oil producers and they received what they requested. These Native corps. will now receive what ever is taken from the PFD's by this Admin. These people will not care, about future PFD's not being paid.

When we look back a few years, we see the very same thing occur with the fishing industry which was our greatest state resource. The state came in, and took full control and today there are less than 2% state owners, who still have permits and who fish. This is how our state works, they eventually run off all the locals and take all their incomes, then their businesses. Then when these people who built this state become seniors, after having faithfully dedicated their lives and talents for many years, only to have their retirement income taken to pay for state budget short falls.

MAN!  Don't we all know how the politicians work by now and yet we continue to vote these people into office!!   Go, go Republicans!  Vote more of these sorts in to run the state!  Thanks for the chance to voice our opinions while the ADN trashes more voices daily, by their editors who choose not to publish, the honest opinions, of the citizens of this great state.
