"LETTER TO STATE HOUSE AGAINST HB 106"

By Maurice Byers - March 5, 2003

Hon. Members of the House,

HB 106 is the latest, shameful, dirty trick foisted on the citizens of this state.  I’d really be interested to know how any of you can justify how this proposed legislation warrants consideration, much less provides any benefit to Alaskans.

In a democracy, informed citizens and ideas which “stand the light of day” should be the standard.  Unfortunately, I see HB 106 benefiting only the handlers of those nameless, faceless, “courtesans” that skulk through your halls promoting their own narrow, selfish, interests!  The most reprehensible part of this legislation is the very nature of its introduction.   This legislature needs to quit hiding behind "committee introduction" of controversial bills.  For lack of a better word, it’s “spineless”!  Put a name on abominations like HB106 so we can see exactly WHO is “bought and paid for”!

Kindly be advised:  Many of us are sick and tired of “business as usual” in Juneau.  How you ultimately vote will show your true colors, and we will keep a permanent record of that for all to see.  I would suggest your time would better be spent reading Representative Kohring’s Ten Point Plan To Curb Government Spending, in lieu of spending 2 seconds entertaining rubbish like HB 106.
