"An Informed Voter Is The Best Defense Against Bad Government"

"LETTER TO EDITOR"

By Donald E. Roberts, Jr. - March 2, 2003

Dear Editor

Some folks would have us believe that increasing the role of corporations
and their profits will somehow bolster the economy.

This belief ignores the role of the economy and the nature of corporations,
and the relationship they have.

The economy is a distribution network – a system of institutions and rules
whereby a society values and distributes available resources.

Essentially economic tapeworms, corporations appropriate and hoard resources
to increase their own value and to benefit their particular owners – not the
general public.

Arguments that private hoarding and corporate profiteering can contribute to
the public good are whimsical at best, ignorant and dangerous at worst and
result from a logic that can only be described as fallacious and deluded.
